We went to spend a few quiet days to rest from the stress in Khartoum. Unfortunately we went for an extended weekend which was a big mistake. The place is basically a picknick site for ALL more wealthy Sudanese from Port Sudan and their visitors. People hanging on your porch the whole weekend. There is no privacy at all. The shared toilets get quickly totally dirty and the water doesnt run anymore as soon as all this day picknickers arrive.
Food portions are extremly small and totally overpriced. It takes a long time untill you get something, doesnt matter how long you book in advance. When you make any kind of comment to the owner (the apparently dutch - sudanese lady), she comes up with some almost racist comments towards foreigners which really upset the parents of my wife who where on a visit to Sudan.
Besides the fact that the place is really nice I would not recommend anybody to go there. Eventhough Hassan the owners son is a really nice guy and tries his best.... Its just a real pitty but in the current state and with the current policy towards guests there is nothing relaxing in staying there... Except you are the kind of person who feels relaxed in the middle of overcrowded market places....
And finally I have to say, when you travel there without your own car you almost feel a bit imprisoned and exposed to the tempers of a moody ruler...
